Anybody ever been to the Bisti Badlands in NM? I'm researching what can be seen without too mich hiking. Looks like not much.
Hope you can get where you want to go.
It's a very rough area, pixi. Not god for old knees!

When did you go, Aknan? How much of it did you see?

I lived in NM for a while and hiked there extensively, especially in the pueblo areas, even after I moved to Kansas City. Did very little in the Bisti - it wasn't really known 50 years ago! You have to carry everything you need, including plenty of water and there is no vehicle access, not even bicycles. It has become popular in the last 10 - 15 years as our outdoor craze has grown, but it's still not a place for anyone who's not fit. About all you could see, since you don't hike much, would be from overlooks. If you combined this with trips to various monuments - Banderilla, Monte Verde (CO), Taos and such - you could have a pretty good trip.

We're actually doing AZ-CO, not NM. It would be a side trip. I was researching to see if it would be better than what I already planned but came to the conclusion more time at the Bisti was not a better choice. At best we could only get a light sampling. I am hoping we can walk as far as the cracked rock section along the wash. The weather may not be amenable and so we won't go at all in that case.
Thanks for your input. I wish we had had the money to do these things when we were younger.
