Zebra and wildebeests follow storms and the smell of rain, because where ever it rains there are fresh pastures for them to graze in, so in a sense I guess these guys are sort of like storm chasers. I just thought that was pretty neat...
Last night/early this morning, I was watching a live webcam from Kenya from a watering hole. It was incredible to watch - at first, there were the sounds of birds and fairly early in the morning, there were several antelopes and other herbivores - then suddenly, the birds made a lot of noise for about a minute, and all those animals disappeared. A few moments later, there was a lioness and 3 cubs checking out the area. The cubs were playing with each other for a while, and then the mom rounded them up and walked off.
Then, a few minutes later, an older bull elephant showed up and started drinking a lot of water - during this time, no other animals were showing up on camera. When the elephant stopped drinking and started, I guess eating, something from where the lioness had been lying down just moments earlier - finally, other animals started showing up. I didn't see any zebras, but it was pretty cool watching!
I hope no one thinks I'm irreverent, I don't mean to be, but I think I said somewhere else here on this site that I think that zebras prove that God has a great sense of humor. I still think that, but there are many other critters that I feel also meet that designation. How about anteaters, for example? Or many more? 'Scuse, please!
