One lives under a shed here, & comes to under my front porch, looking for food. I think he eats me earthworms & from my compose pile. He is in compotition with the raccoons & possoms. I have to bring in the cat food every night.
I saw two of them when I visited ranch in Banderas. I think they're cute--probably because they're so small but if they were large then...
I read someplace they sometimes carry a nasty disease but I don't remember what.
You're right they can carry Leprosy (hanson's Disease. )

And they can and do transmit it to humans. 1/3 Of new cases trace back to Armadillo's. Most of the cases are concentrated in Louisiana and Texas but I still love them and Louisiana :)

I've never been to Louisiana. Are you coastal?

I live in Denver Colorado now, but I did live in New Orleans for 14 years...They are on the Gulf of Mexico and also have the Mississippi river on the other side. If you drive out of New Orleans towards Mississippi it becomes more coastal and then right along Mobile Alabama the water turns green and the best ocean is between Mobile and Pennsicola Florida. It take about 2 hours to drive there but it's worth the trip! I grew up in Colorado so I don't mind being landlocked but I sure miss the coast!
Yes they are so cute they're ugly, strong too. Living on 34 acres I saw many of the little creatures. Stepped in many a hole walking about. But they are the "Texas Turkey". Why, got me...
I think they're cute, too. These little critters look like they belong back in the age of the dinasaurs! I love the beautiful pics made into puzzles on this site, but one of the best things about C4J is the number of times a puzzle sends me to the internet to read up on something. I found out the armadillo primarily eats slugs, ants and termites! A natural pest remover, and I really like that.
