I chose this from the Random puzzles as I am reading an excellent book and I highly recommend it. The Elephant Whisperer by Lawrence Anthony It is about a man who owns a huge wildlife reserve in Africa. He is asked to adopt a herd of seven elephants --- "troublesome" elephants!
Lovely calf! When I was a child I was taken to a zoo for the first time and there was the baby elephant. There was a sign saying DO NOT FEED the elephants. I had a sleeve of cookies in my hands and the baby reached over the edge of the pen and helped themself to one of my cookies. I froze out of fear that someone would yell at me but no one did. The baby was quite gentle with its trunk (very hairy) LOL
When you are finished with the book, you could store it in a trunk.

In the USA [except Indiana and a couple of other places, we will be CHANGING back to standard time and leaving daylight savings time. An American Indian once said about changing back and forth the time: "Only a white man would thing he would have more daylight by changing to daylight savings time. It's like cutting off part of the blanket at the bottom and sewing it on the top and thinking you have a longer blanket."

THIS SUNDAY at 2:00 AM is when we change the clocks. I HATE getting up at that time of the night just to change the clocks. lol

I'd hoped it would be saving elephants instead. (Just being silly about a serious issue.) Did you see the clip of the baby elephant that jumped into a river to save his keeper because the elephant thought he was in trouble?
Elephants are awesome.

A longer blanket! Good one. We don't change time in Arizona either, except one tiny spot!

100% true. Never made any sense to me. I always hated it.

I hate having to change times. It's so outdated now. Wish they would keep it at standard time and let it be. I know Arizona still has standard time. Wish we had it also.

PW - Love the story about the blanket and it is exactly how I feel. Queensland is the only state on the eastern side of Australia that doesn't switch to daylight savings, Victoria and New South Wales do change which creates a lot of problems for Queensland. We just have too many time zones across Australia now that it is just too confusing. I liked it when I lived in Canada as I could see the benefits there, but not here. Hugs.

Outnumbered again. Oh well. All I can say is I have a touch of S.A.D. and when daylight savings kicks in it really helps. Would hate to see early sunset in summer and a 4 am sunrise when I plan to be sleeping.

Mrs. PW has SAD so we got her a light box and she sits in front of it for 1/2 hour every day during the winter and reads.

To those not familiar with the term, it stands for Seasonal Affected Disorder.

Tell Mrs. PW she has company. I have a large bay window in which I will sit to read for a half hour when it's sunny. Sometimes I even put on shorts and a tank top but they say you don't get benefit from sunshine when it comes through a window. Well it still feels good.
If it isn't windy I can sit against my front door with the storm door propped open to block the breeze but I can only do that when it isn't sub freezing as it is late December through March. No shorts of course. Only my face is usually uncovered.
I also keep colored lights up around the house all year. All those things help, but not nearly as much as the late sunset. There's nothing finer than having time after supper dishes are done to do something nice outside like walk around the lake and wait for sunset to take photos. The inconvenience of switching clocks--and today the electronic stuff adjusts itself, compared to losing that extra hour seems a very small price to pay.
I suppose if you're a night person you can't wait for it to be dark and must love the winter.

That cut blanket actually gets shorter because you have to have seam allowance.

That's true. It's just a metaphorical analogy. Actually I think the saving applied not to the daylight but to money that would be saved from the change in time. It was put into law during the depression so businesses wouldn't need to have their lights on as long. The same for residences and schools. These days probably the only savings would be from the baseball stadiums not needing to turn on the kleeg lights as soon.
I just love nature so much that the more time I have to see it (without having to get up super early, the better it is for me. It gives me a sense of freedom and hope.

Vmarie, that's the way it seams to me too sew the whole time change is ridiculous. I wish they would leave us in the same time zone all year instead of daylight savings time.

My eldest son lives in northern Alaska, above the arctic circle and he said it is easier for him to get his rest when it is twilight 23 hours a day than when it is sunshine for 23 hours a day because he can't keep track of the time when it is light for so many hours.

Just to let you know that MA is thinking about not changing clocks. I kind of like the idea but then where Boston is a big city and lots of business and colleges and one the biggest airports, what happens when every other state in New England doesn't change how does that effect business and especially flights? Just wondering.

I know Arizona is only on standard time. One state--not sure which one, part of the state stays on standard and part changes to DST when necessary. They just adjust all the plane schedules to it.

AS, A light box is a 12" or 30.8 cm cube that has LED lights in it to stimulate the body into thinking it has more daylight hours like it has during the summer.People with S.A.D. don't like the dark days of winter when the sun doesn't shine as long.

"SAD is a serious disorder that disrupts the lives of many people, worldwide. " It is a disorder not an opinion. Sorry Parson. You probably didn't mean to say it was an opinion but it goes beyond liking which is the word you use to describe it.
On this site light boxes, etc. are given as treatment but sunshine is the real answer...getting outside and feeling that sun.

I totally agree with you pixipixil. There is nothing like being in the sunshine when you have SAD,

As in beer belly? Never heard of bay window. Leave it to you to find a pun hidden somewhere.
I wouldn't try sitting in your bay window!

A song from kindergarten (from memory):
Jumbo elephant, jumbo elephant,
it's fun to look at you!
Jumbo elephant, jumbo elephant,
you live in a great big zoo!
May all your days be filled with love and light!
