Love the different colors protecting the people on the balconies. They were out there, AS, but they didn't want their picture taken. I guess they were afraid the pictures wouldn't be returned. What a great way to meet and visit and share with neighbors. I wish we had more of that kind of sharing like we used to. I was taking some summer classes at a seminary in Evanston, Illinois for 5 summers. I woud speak to people, and they would run or turn the other way. I always lived in small towns where everyone knew everyone else and it would have been rude to not greet one another.
PW, it seems like people are afraid to acknowledge strangers in today's world. Most walk around with their attention focused on a handheld electronic device, not the world around them. I miss the friendliness, too.

I had the some problem when I moved to this town. If I walked down the street and smiled at people, they would look away. Interesting!!!

I dislike seeing people walking around with their ear glued to their mobile phones and making or taking calls in a restaurant. Someone needs to write a book of mobile phone etiquette. Frankly I only use mine for emergencies and cannot see the need to be on them all the time. Hugs.

I agree aussiesapphire! Its worse when they are on the phone as checking out. The cashier never cares for it and neither do most people in line behind them. If by chance i'm on it when I get to the cashier I tell the person on the phone to hold or i'll call them back after I get done. Its the right thing to do. Hugs.

The best way to talk to people is to chat with them when they're in the elevator. A simple comment can get them all talking! I live in Toronto and if there is a subway problem, with everyone around grumbling and complaining, I'll make a silly comment like What a lovely day today! You'll get them all making comments to you like...we're underground, we're stuck...etc. I just look around with a smile and say, Yeah, but I get to be here with all of you. Then there's smiles, a few others catch the bug and the car gets to chatting. Then I'll just grab my ereader and continue reading, smiling because my job is done. Fun times! Hugs!

I had a fellow who made a cell phone call DURING a funeral I was having for his Aunt. I stopped the service and asked him to either take his phone outside or shut it off.

During a funeral? Oh my! There's this thing called respect and I think he wasn't using it. Ugh!
Sharing common walls with neighbors is way too cozy for me. Also, this kind of construction allows for no windows in units on the inside, except for in front and in back. I love a naturally lighted room during the day. My plants are hungry for the sunlight each morning. This living situation would have been viewed as a tenement back in the early 1900's. But it is quite charming in a jigsaw puzzle.
