Reminds me of the news item yesterday about a mother bear who saved her three cubs when they slid off something high --- and maybe into the water (that part was not clear.) In Alaska. A good mama!
Mama bears are quite similar to human mothers, JAMP124. I've even seen one get exasperated with one of three cubs that wasn't paying attention to her. She smacked it on the rump with her paw and sent it tumbling. You can bet the cub stayed closer after that!
