Really had to do this over again larger. I knocked almost 5 minutes off the time I had on the first round. Parents drove along Big Sur when I was 22. Don't remember the bridge. Do remember stopping at the tide pools. Loved it. Loved Carmel. Would love to go back. So sad an earthquake is almost sure to destroy it all some day.
We drove all the way down from Washington State. It was very beautiful. It was definitely worth it until we got close to San Francisco. It was a Friday afternoon and all the crazies were speeding trying to get out of town, taking the curves at high speed, sometimes in their lane, sometimes half in ours. We were on the bloody side. If the hit us we would have been on the cliff side way above the ocean and we might have ended up on the bottom. We decided to turn East to wine country. It was a much more relaxing drive then. We had been north of San Francisco before, riding along the coast, and we had seen some of the scenery before. It was a wonderful trip.
I took my little grandma on a "holiday" trip up Hwy 1 to Carmel. It is a wonderful, beautiful, scenic drive. I didn't know my Gram was afraid of bridges and high places. I drove her right across this bridge, of course. I didn't know. Bless her heart, she didn't say a word! I will always feel bad about this.
I believe that is hwy101 on the western coast hwy and eastern coast hwy is hwy 1. Some parts in Fla you can leave hwy 1 and get closer to ocean on A1A.
