Online jigsaw puzzle of a black forest cake covered with chocolate chips. The cake is traditionally made with cherries and whipped cream between layers of chocolate cake.
Absolute torture - my taste buds have been poised for a piece of cake for ages!!
This is part of a very old song, which will probably date me lol
"If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake
baked a cake, baked a cake
If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake
Howd-ya do, howd-ya do, howd-ya do
Had you dropped me a letter, I'd a-hired a band
Grandest band in the land
Had you dropped me a letter, I'd a-hired a band
And spread the welcome mat for you"
Anyone care to confess they know this song lol. Have a wonderful day and God bless all of you.
Yes Aussie it does, we sing it often when we have times with the residents remembering the past, which also dates us, the age range of the residents is 60yrs to 101yrs, so between them lots of things are known and loved.

Certainly did sing it, especially in the car on road trips. My favorite was "You are my Sunshine" but "Baked a Cake" was right up there. How about "Boogey-Woogy Boy of Company B". I always loved that one. Good to dance to.

Aussie, don't know that one, but do know this - it's a song from our Great Depression in the 30s.
Cut yourself a piece of cake and make yourself at home.
I'm sorry that I can't fix steak, but cake is so high-toned!
You'll get corns and bunions
From eating Spanish onions,
So cut yourself a piece of cake and make yourself at home!
Always enjoyed the spirit of that song.

I have heard I would've baked you a cake but I didn't know there was a song like that. I guess NO I have not heard it. Do you have the notes? I could try to play it on my keyboard!

Makes me think of Big Crosby and Rosemary Clooney. How about Come onna my house my house an come on and I'm gonna give-a you ca-andy. Come onna my house to my-y house and I'm gonna give you peach and a fig and (I never could figure out this part of the song--it sounded like 'an apple for my wig' which makes no sense)

Oh and another one I just remembered--Come on let's bake a sunshine cake, it really isn't so hard to make,
fresh tears, a pound or two of pleasure, kind words --don't even need a measure cup. It's not from a recipe book and you don't need to be a good cook or run to the oven and look. It's such a simple dish. All you do is wish..........someone want to fill in the rest?

I never heard the one about sunshine cake but I loved Come onna my house. I've been singing "You are my Sunshine" all day. It's stuck in my head. I'll try to substitute Come onna my house...but those are the only words I know to it. I'm off to google it!

Yep, I remember "Sunshine Cake" - it was a close-harmony duet, with some nice syncopation. Bing maybe and someone like Jane Wyman?????

I didn't think Jane Wyman was a singer but so many of these Hollywood stars have talents that don't show up for years. Naturally both Wyman and Crosby have shown whatever as they are long gone but I really think it's more likely to have been Rosemary Clooney.

Okay, so here's the good word! "Sunshine Cake" is from the film "Riding High" (1950) - Bing, Colleen Gray & Clarence Muse:: "If I knew You Were Comin' I'd Have Baked A Cake" - Eileen Barton (1950) and the Bing Crosby/ Jane Wyman duet I was thinking of is "In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening" from "Here Comes the Groom" (1950). There are several clips of the latter on YouTube - do check it out, it's purely brilliant - superb timing!!

Just listened to Sunshine Cake with Crosby and Carol Richards. Did my heart good. What wonderful music there used to be.
Friends, I worked this puzzle with tears in my eyes -a nd not because I wanted a slice of my favorite cake!. Just learned that a good friend who's been fighting ovarian cancer for months (a huge tumor over 8"x5"x4" and over 300 lesions throughout her abdomen) has been told there's really nothing else that can be done.
If you could spare a prayer to bring her peace of mind in the time she has left, it would be greatly appreciated. Although she has deep faith in God, it's going to be tested.
Reiki energy and prayers for peace of mind are being sent her way.

Aknan, I am so sorry to here of your friends troubles. I am glad, though, that she has a deep faith in God. It will be tested but He is faithful! I will pray for your friend.

I have put wings on my prayer for her so that they get there the quicker. May Jesus put His healing hand on her and bring her His peace, peace which the world cannot give and bring her to a gentle end of her earthly journey. God bless you both and all puzzlers

Dear Aknan, so sorry to hear about your friend. I received word today of another old friend who just passed away. Unfortunately as we age this is a fact of life, but sad nevertheless. Take care and God bless you - praying for your friend and you as well.

Aknan: I am so sorry for your friend and for you. I will pray she is comforted by the Holy Spirit and strengthened to face this last leg of her journey on this earth. God bless you, too. Good friends can be a great source of comfort to those who are dying. May God strengthen you as well.

Aknan --- Tell your good friend this story. In the outskirts of Stockholm there is an outdoor museum, Millesgarden, of the sculpture of Carl Milles. One that I will never forget is a huge outstretched hand ---palm up. In the hand stands an almost life-size figure of a man. The title of the piece -- "Man in the Hand of God." I sometimes place myself in that hand --- the comforting, healing (in all ways, not just physical) hand of God. Bless her and you. You are a good friend.
