Cattle are sacred to some in India. Hindus maybe? The cattle go where they want and do what they want in some areas. I think a smaller sacred animal would have served well and left smaller pungent piles of fecal matter. Although the droppings may be used for fuel by poor Indians of which there are many. Probably some families get milk from female cattle if they aren't feeding a calf. No life for most of us in developed nations.
Not only do cattle furnish the Indian farmer with milk, leather, and fuel, they are also beasts of burden for people who can't afford tractors or pickups. The male calves are neutered and pull plows and bullock carts on the farm, much as horses did for our forefathers.
