I lived most of my life in California until we moved to Indiana almost 4 years ago. I loved seeing quail - a fun bird to watch. I miss them here but now I get to see cardinals which we did not have in California.
I'm from NE Indiana, and we don't see these kind of quail here, if fact I don't think I have ever seen a wild quail. Lots of other lovely birds, though. Yes, the cardinals are bright, and always have to announce that they are at a feeder. :)
Sometimes people eat the small game to survive. Doves are eaten, too. But to me, the mouthful of meat isn't worth the effort to clean and cook it. They are safe from me!
We have lived most of our married life in Northern Indiana. When raising our daughters during their school years we had an acre of
land with trees all around the house. In the winter time a family of
quail would come through the snow and get in a circle just a few feet from our windows. They made a circle with their tail feathers
in the center, keeping watch while one looked around for food.
We enjoyed seeing them, it made us glad that it was winter again
and we could put food out for them.
