Not many interiors but the dome has a beautiful mosaic. In my opinion this church is much more beautiful outside. The pictures of it at night which are from the side show a gorgeous bell tower and a gorgeous rounded area with multiple arched windows around secondary half circular bulges--like a scalloped doile. It's much more graceful than this view conveys.
I agree with Elijah..I think they went way overboard with all the huge cathedrals. I remember the one room church we went to when I was a little shaver.
Jas, I'm with you and elijah13. When my hubby and I went to England in 2005 we renewed our wedding vows in a small, stone church in the Lake District. On another trip we went to York Minster. The huge church just didn't have the simplicity and humility that appeals to us.

Our Bishop spent millions to restore the cathedral that is the seat of the diocese. I find it oppressive and even ugly. On the other hand there are massive churches which are beautiful and lift the spirit and I would hate to see them disappear. There is a Mormon cathedral near San Diego that is truly stunning. There is the Hajia Sophia and so many others that are beautiful and inspiring. I think it depends on the event and your memories which you hope to recreate whether you like a big, elaborate church or a small one. I can't stand our parish church which is a cinder block a-frame and makes me feel anything but worshipful. I avoid going there, but in general like a smaller church for myself as long as I don't feel jam-packed or entombed by it. Simple can be beautiful or just tacky.

Anyone who likes nice simple churches go to St. Patrick's, Hampton Beach, NH. So simple outside but with all the nicely done statues inside and the beams and stain glass windows you would love it. It is only open from May to Columbus day as there is no ac or heat. People are great and the priest is so nice. It is 103 years old but you won't know it.
