I don't remember my checker board looking like that. Maybe I just don't remember! I guess they made different boards--maybe because of where you lived in the US. I lived in Chicago--but don't remember playing checkers. I did play in Massachusetts.

Years ago, played a similar game using marbles, with a board similar to chinese checkers, but it was called Wahoo, and later was sold in the toy section under another name which I don't recall. You only used one die, and if one was able, could jump to the hole in the center, and thereby get closer to your home space, where you needed six marbles in the center of your triangle to win.
Scaled down version of Chinese Checkers. Great for small hands I would think. I play Chinese Checkers with my grandson. We both drop the marbles. Pieces like this would be much easier to handle. My mom used to beat me at this game when I was a kid. I don't recall her EVER letting me when. I still have that game.
