Sometimes I wish we could go back to these cars---you knew where everything was and how to use it. I don't use probably 3/4th of the things in my car. I want it to get me from one place to the other and then home.
Back in the 60's, my Dad had either the Renault 3 or 4 - they both more or less looked identical, and at this distance from it, can't remember which, and Dad ain't here to ask any more.
It had a three speed box operated by a push / pull lever on the dashboard.
We three kids used to refer to it as "Dick Turpin", as. like him, it often held people up on the highways.
Mind you, he and Mum went everywhere in it, England, Scotland Wales - I don't recall them ever going to Ireland, and all over Europe, Over a quarter of a million miles he did in that thing before we sold it following his demise..
Increditable, really, when you consider it only had three forward and one reverse gear.
My Subaru has 6 forward plus reverse - what a difference 50 years makes!

I loved that gear stick, we had a later model and I think it had 4 gears but cant be 100% sure. Funny thing I too have a scooby doo (Subaru) an outback :) He's getting a little long in the tooth now but still going strong!

We've recently parted with our old Forrester = 170, 000 miles and still going strong.
It had two dents in it - one where 'er indoors clouted the garage door upright - nothing serious, but somewhat bigger than the dent I put on it on the bonnet.
I put the word 'hers' underneath her dent, and 'his' alongside my dent.
The guy who bought it has over-ridden them with the word 'Theirs'!
I wonder if the owner is an antique also? He will need to be car-ful when driving it so he can keep it is good shape. Love the "license plate" in the front.
My mother left me enough money when she passed away 20 years ago to get a brand new car, first one I have ever owned. It is a Daihatsu Charade and I am still driving it. Unfortunately the company who made this car went out of business and my mechanic says he can no longer work on the car because of lack of parts. So sad as I think it would keep running for another 20 years and see me out. Hugs PW
