I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts, There they are all hanging in a row, big ones, small ones, some as big as your head. Anyone else remember that one?
Give it twist a flick of your wrist, that's what the showman said.(start singing verse again )
Oh I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts.

Knee's up mother brown, knee's up mother brown, knee's up knee's up don't get the breeze up knees up mother brown, under the bridges you must go, e I e I e I o and if I catch you laughing I will sing it all again so knees up knees up knees up mother brown.
as you are singing this song you pick your skirts up and pick you knees up one at a time as though you are doing the can.when you get a few of you you can have a laugh, and this is what the Londoners used to dance to during the war.
If you have ever seen Mary Poppins you would have seen them dance to this.

Barefoot day's when we were just a couple of scruffy little kids, we go down to a shady nook use a bent pin for a hook we would fish all day and fish all night, but the dog gone fish refused to bite.
Then we would slide and slide down some-ones cellar door, slide and slide till our pants was tore, then we toddle of home get ready for bed, while mother got busy with her needle and thread, oh boy what joy we had in barefoot days.
Think these was the days when most of the people did not have much, but what you never had you never missed and people made there own fun. hope you enjoyed the bare foot days song

I never heard it before but love it
sure went bare foot as a child
not much after I got old enough to buy shoes
never liked walking in the sand
my daughter goes bare foot all the time

What a great song about a freer time. You are right, we didn't have much but we knew all the neighbors and they knew us. And yes I ran around barefoot a lot. Loved it and still do. Thanks for the song.

The Knees up mother brown song and lifting one skrtts up I said it was in Mary Poppins, it could have been in Bed knobs and Broomsticks as they travel into London bed and all.
Did you have any of the old songs you used to sing?
