My favorite is called a Jonagold -- a cross between Jonathan apples and Golden Delicious. Crunchy, juicy, and wonderfully flavorful. We have several apple orchards near us in Oak Glen, Ca, just above Cherry Valley -- where we have plentiful cherries in late June and early July!
Haven't seen that hybrid but I will look for it at the farmer's market in the summer! You are fortunate to be near orchards. Oh boy do I love dark cherries.
