An Orthodox friend and I were discussing the different dates for Easter. She laughed and said one of her favorite parts was getting Easter candy at 1/2 price! That made me giggle. Happy Palm Sunday!

Happy Easter to Kevin and staff and everyone. Gina what is the difference between Palm Sunday and Easter? I am very curious about other cultures and their way of life. I love learning about other countries. Take care and be safe.

Hi darambo. You asked about Palm Sunday. That is the commemoration of the day Jesus comes openly to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover feast (which we later commemorate on Holy Thursday.) He rides in on a donkey and the crowds great him a with olive branches and proclaim him king. That is the first part of the celebration but then the events which lead to His crucifixion are read because others in the crowd turn on him and insist Pontius Pilate must crucify Him because He called himself the son of God (which equates to saying He Himself is God and Divine and in Jewish law that is a blasphemy requiring death.) Jesus was betrayed to the Jewish priests who were afraid his popularity would bring down the wrath of Rome on them. They send him to the Roman procurator who rules Jerusalem to have him executed because under Roman law they are not allowed to do it themselves.

Thank you all for your wishes!! darambo Palm Sunday is a Christian movable feast that falls on the Sunday before Easter On Palm Sunday we remember Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Usually Christian Orthodox Easter falls a week after other Christians' Easter, but some years we celebrate Easter on the same day.

Darambo, we celebrate Easter because that is the day that Jesus rose from the dead defeating death and giving eternal life to all who will believe in him.

Although more is made of Christmas, Easter is the most imortant of Christian holidays according to church teaching. Why did Jesus defeat death? Because no matter what Satan used to turn Him away from God the Father, He never faltered; He never sinned. He always did the Father's will and showed that love is stronger than anything else.
He reigns in heaven with the Father and Holy Spirit--one God in the three persons of the Trinity--a mystery explained by St. Patrick by using the clover with three lobes--each lobe connected to the others to make one whole.

Robert0199 do know why we celebrate Easter, just couldn't remember about Palm Sunday. Thank you for responding. The way I wrote that last post was a little confusing as to what I know about Easter. Be safe.
Tonight at church we are celebrating the last supper, everyone who is able will bring a dish to share. Tomorrow being Good Friday we will have a very sedate service in the evening. Then of course on Sunday we will celebrate Easter.
