I am too lazy to decorate this year. Keeping my wood until it gets really cold. try to save on propane.

We had a fireplace, but rarely used it for a log fire. When we had guests, I would light candles in it. Very effective and a lot less trouble and clean up!

Like elijah13 I also have a fireplace that I never use. It's gas with fake logs and even though it puts out heat, it sends my gas bill through the roof. So noooo.

I love my fireplace. I use it every winter. I have an insert inside the firebox. It keeps my home warm. A lot of people in our rural area use their fireplace. There are times when the electricity goes off the fireplace is the only heat we have because most of our heating units are electric.

Wood stoves, properly placed and maintained, produce more heat for the home than a fireplace, which lets a lot of heat escape through the chimney. We heated our 1700 sq ft home in Wyoming with a wood stove & used a box fan to blow the heat down the hall to the bedrooms. It was quite cozy & I always had a kettle on the stove, both for humidity and as a source of ready hot water for coffee & tea. We rarely had to resort to turning on the furnace, even at below-zero temps.

We, too, have a fireplace and love to have a nice fire on cold days and nights. We have an iron fireback on ours so the heat radiates out better (than without one).

When we first bought our houseit had the biggest wood stove I've ever seen and it worked great, had a fan and kept our1400sq ft house warm, but Ed started driving long haul and didn't want us to worry about wood, so we put in a forced air unit. Always kept a teapot on the woodstove. Miss the stove, but not the mess of the wood. I know a lot of heat goes up a chimney, but isn't that what the damper is for???

Workined are you new posting on here? I was off for a while and your name is not familiar. Welcome to the playground, we have a great supportive group here. Always nice to see a new name and new ideas. I am in a rural area also, central Oregon high desert on top of the mountains. We have a few peaks taller. We also lose our power...snow usually. We have propane heaters for backup. Will close now, hope you continue to post. Be safe.

I am not new to crazy4jigsaws, only new to posting. I am recently retired and decided I had more time to post. I have enjoyed reading everyones posts over the years. I have visited Oregon. It is one of the most beautiful states I have visited. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Workined so glad you have time to post, always good to have new perspectives and opinions. What state or country are you in? What did you retire from? I am retired also. Used to work in the law for many years then when we moved to Oregon I started teaching in special education. Will close now " welcome to the group " and stay safe.

Very Hard one for me because of the dark pieces and varying texture. First tried the 300 pieces, ah nope! Good luck and a merry if possible. Not my holiday anymore. Love.

Oh we adore the NC mountains. We used to have a place up there but had to sell it recently (health situations). Where in NC are y'all?
