Bright green string beans are scattered across a cutting board in this free online jigsaw puzzle. The distressed wood background and dramatic lighting create a rustic effect.
Oh green beans. My mother planted a huge vegetable garden that fed us all winter, and green beans was her main crop--that and tomatoes. Sweetcorn came third. Of course we kids got the jolly job of weeding, picking and doing most of the processing. I was smart (and lazy), I volunteered to watch the big old waterbath canner for the many half-hours it took to process the jars. I much preferred sitting and reading in the hot steamy kitchen, than dealing with the hot sun and bugs outside!
There is an old saying: If you want to find the best way to do a job, give it to the laziest person you know. I made an entire business out of it.

I spent many hours in the (unairconditioned) kitchen with a hot water bath canner and a pressure cooker! Mom and I canned hundreds of quarts of fresh veggies, especially tomatoes. Mom's 94 now and we still talk about doing that together.

We never had air con until I was in highschool. Which is ironic as my dad installed it for a living. But as he and my mom were born in the 1920s, their idea was that fans were cool enough. And if not, go out and work in the garden for awhile, and the house will be cool by contrast! She taught me all I know about the importance of a cross draft in the morning, and closing the curtains before it gets hot.

I liked the way you slipped in "has been" in the mix.
Love beans of all kinds but JAS6415 the idea of beans for breakfast I don't think so, I will stay with cereals, toast and marmalade.
we elebrated our Patronal Festival today with Mass and then a BBQ in the garden, the chefs must have fed at least 100 people and they fed us well. the sun was out again, but we have been told that we may have rain towards the end of the afternoon, it's now 19:30 and no sign of rain, I suppose there is always tomorrow. Enjoy the weekend God bless you
Sounds like a lovely, blessed day, Barbaranne. It must have been quite fun for everyone.
Like JAS6415, I eat a lot of vegetables, even for breakfast! I've found it helps keep my blood sugar under control, and with the addition of some protein, perhaps a hard cooked egg, I don't get hungry for many hours.

Hi Barbaranne. It sounds like you're feeling a bit better. I sure hope so. I couldn't eat beans for breakfast either. In fact, I've NEVER liked string beans. Hope you have a good weekend too.

Aknan, I like a breakfast of broccoli florets & cauliflower florets with a little dressing (or steamed with a little margarine), a cup of yogurt and a 20gm protein Boost.
I eat a fair amount of 'non' breakfast food but the green beans wouldn't be part of my breakfast. Sounds like you've found a breakfast you really like though! :)

Lately, I prefer sugar snap peas to green beans --- a new favorite.
