They are so cute - I don't think I could do like many of the people of the Andes and eat these animals. They probably don't understand how we don't eat them and keep them as pets, paying as much money as we do for them.
Used to have one of these and his name was charlie. Then we got him Zelda and he no longer liked us he just wanted to keep breeding more babies:) 1/30/13
Actually, guinea pigs only breed 3 or 4 times a year (if you let them- it's better to only have 2-3 litters a year) and they only produce 1-4 babies. Very unusual to have more. They are born fully functional, with teeth and eat pellets, fruit, veggies...immediately. They have a rather long incubation period- 63 days- just like a dog or cat, which is one reason they don't breed as frequently as other rodents.
- Hey, honey, feeling better?
- Who's this?
- I'll give you a hint: I'm cute, I'm furry, and I make five hundred babies a year!
- Rodney, get back in your cage!
