Have a wonderful day.
Here's a question for sthose of you who are singers.
If you were a soprano and were asked to join a choir because you were told there weren't any good sopranos (and how can you have a choir without them? ) then when you say you will join to help out (not because you really want to but think God wanted it) the director wants you to sing alto, how would you feel and what would you do?

Pixipixil, I'm not a singer but I am trying think what I would do. I would think the choir director knew you could sing but really trying to get you to join and then see if you would sing alto and make you feel guilty if you didn't. If you didn't want to sing alto I wouldn't. I would feel hurt and used. My mom sang soprano normally but she and my dad were asked to sing specials on occasion so she would sing alto because my dad sang tenor. Anyway I think was the reason. Is that the way a couple sings? One tenor and one soprano? Back in the 40's my mom and two sisters that were the pastors girls sang on the radio some, Would be interested in what I said and if I was completely wrong.

As for your mom and dad it could go either way. Normally sopranos have the melody but tenors can too tho not as often.
Thank you. That is exactly how I felt. I declined to sing with the choir at all especially since I am not yet comfortable being close to unmasked groups of people. I thought God was telling me to go for it because it was an emergency. Clearly that was not the case and I feel much better having declined. I was surprised the director is still good with having me cantor--I am isolated when I do so I don't mind having the mask off.

I remember having the very same experience in high school and after a while my voice adapted to the lower range, Made me able to sing in both keys. It was helpful. I'm afraid this will not be of use to you as it is written much later than your comment,

Hi sunshine. I could have done it. I have an alto and a soprano range but soprano is where I have training and I don't have a good ear for harmony so it would have taken a lot of extra work to learn every hymn all over again.
The point is I have an excellent soprano voice which I constantly get told people love. Why would I want to destroy it croaking along at the bottom of my range when there really was no emergency? The director just didn't want to teach that part and knew I could learn it on my own. It also would have forced me to attend all rehearsals which were at night and I don't like to drive at night. The person who asked me to join saying they desperately needed sopranos sold it to me as something I could do with little attendance at rehearsal since I was a cantor for over 30 years and already knew most of the music. I don't think people should join a choir unless they are willing to go to rehearsals but in a dire emergency....anyway it's long past that and I am comfortable with my decision.

Good for you! I was just very young and you sound like you have so much more experience. I always say, you know you more than anyone else does. Good luck.

Hi Sunshine. That's nice of you to say that but none of us know all we need to or wish we did. I'm glad your different decision worked out well for you.

Such a beautiful flower blossoming in the snow like that. When God makes something, He makes it both perfectly and wonderfully.
