It sure makes any gardener hate themselves as they watch all these cuties devour everything you toiled over and you plan their demise. Thank goodness for have-a-heart traps.
Over a period of 2 years we caught more than 50 chipmunks (which I love but who eat the bulbs and roots of all your plants) to a nearby woods.

Pixi I have a terrible time with chipmunks in my garden too...and my husband has suggested haveaheart trapping them but I think we'd be catching them many times/day....did it work for you? I think we're outnumbered.

Every day we caught one or two (we had 2 traps). Once two got caught in the same trap and fought with eachother but neither got hurt. It requires diligence. Is there a woods about 15 minutes from you where you can take them? It has to be that fdar away or further or they just find their way back.
I haven't seen any in my yard this year, so I guess it does work xyxyxyxx.

Pixi- we had mixed results with our haveaheart trap. Caught mostly squirrels and relocated them, but the last one was so hyper in the trap that he somehow tore a small hole in the top screen of the trap and had a small cut on his head when I relocated him. I felt terrible about that and threw away the trap. The critters win and we have several chipmunks and squirrels still running around here.

Amazing what those squirrels can chew xyxy. Don't beat yourself up over it. I'd contact HaveaHeart and send photos of the trap. I'm sure it was defective. Also using a small size trap would discourage the squirrels. We baited ours with peanut butter. For months we have been chipmunk free but we have started to see at least one again, so it's out with the traps before it becomes another colony. Squirrels are always around.
