I had a choice to go to Munich or matterhorn. I chose the city. My traveling companions were so disappointed when they got back as they never got close to the matterhorn. all one could see was from a distance like this.
I recall one day one of my grandmothers called. My mom answered and she says oh I'd like to speak with c. I pick up the phone and she says oh hi darling you grandfather and I were brainstorming - since A (sister) is already over in France what would you think of granddad and I and you travel over to France and meet her. We'd like to take you girls on a 3 week trip to Europe wouldn't that be fun? My grandmother planned the trip - we were going to go to the Matterhorn but he had breathing issues and on meds. So we didn't go there - I did want to go.
1lovebug, I don't see anything on the left side of the picture except for a few very wispy clouds. There is a bright spot (behind the big tree) on the right, but I think it is just more of the Matterhorn with snow on it.

Starrphyre, there us a bright white spot sitting on top of the trees on the left. It almost looks like part of the moon showing.

Yup, you sure are right! I didn't even see that little while spot. Guess I was too busy looking at the mountain. As for the moon? I don't know either.
Maybe someone else can come to our rescue.
I've seen the Matterhorn more than once. Best to see it early morning as it can be hidden by cloud later (took me a few attempts to see the top). Sad to think that it gradually being worn away by erosion on all sides (reason for the shape which was originally domed) so will eventually disappear. Yes - there is a hut but also a little mountain railway which takes you part of the way & a new cable car on the Italian side. Climbers can use the hut to get used to the altitude. I was told they may spend the night there for this reason.
