Hardly a bird in sight today, but it hardly mattered because I was out of the house and not at a hospital or a meeting, although I did go to the optician and I got to choose new frames to go with the new varifocals I will be getting for the first time. My son is buying them for me as a birthday present, it was on the 16th, 62 years and 2 days ago, still trying to understand why the days can go so slowly, but the years fly by so quickly!
I am going into hospital march 26th to have a carotid endarterectomy, one carotid is almost totally blocked, and the other is 69% blocked, strangely for me I am feeling nervous about this, even though I know there is only a 20% chance of death or major stroke, I think it is because I have never heard of it before, and I need several tests done beforehand and I am feeling a little out of breath with the speed of it all, especially as all my usual Drs are calling me in for different tests for unrelated conditions, has anyone here ever heard of it or even had one done?
Have your Drs. explain it to you thoroughly before you agree to it. They sometimes are so used to operating on these different diseases that they don't think what the patient is feeling. Have your son or someone else go with you so they can take notes and explain to you thoroughly - when I had my last surgery done, my daughter-in-law went with me - Good thing she did. I was just going to go home alone (I'm a widow) and wouldn't have been able to get around for a few days due to the surgery and the medications they put you on. My son and his wife insisted that I come stay with them, even though their home is small with their 2 little children. I don't think I would have made it w/out them. Always ask too many questions and if possible take someone w/you. God bless and good luck.
