I have an angel trumpet tree. It is as tall as a one story house and has several hundred blossoms 10 to 12 inches long. Mine blooms almost year round. Mine is a white single. Up the street is a yellow double. They are very pretty.

You must love where it stays above freezing, animal. I once had a white one but it didn't bloom all year and it stayed under 2 feet tall.

The part of the plant the cutting originally came from determines whether the new plant becomes a "tree or a bush". A friend of mine gave me my cutting and she knew which part of her tree to cut for the cutting to make a tree instead of a bush. Unfortunately, I don't know. I live in Southern California near the beach and it very rarely freezes. Never enough to hurt the plants.

I think you have a Brugmannsia. I had a datura. They tend to be grouped together but they're not the same plant at all. They do get big trumpet-shaped flowers and like it hot.

Hi animal. Have you been affected by the fires at all?

No. The fires are all north of Los Angeles. I am about 15 miles South of LA right where the state bulges out and then curves East.

Never been there but did get to see a bit of San Diego & spent about an hour on a beach in La Jolla.

This photo reminds me of the Goergia O'Keefe painting of a petunia. Different plant and colors but somehow they have the same feel.

I planted this trumpet vine at my former home. It wouldn't bloom, Now my son fights it it is so prolific.

It took many years before my trumpet vine bloomed but I had to remove it because it was coming up everywhere nd it had started to invade the neighbor's yard. There are still shoots coming up but I keep cutting them down.

Pixi, if these shoots aren't in amongst the regular garden, you might try pouring vinegar on them. It kills the root. I've used this on chickweed, although bleach is better for that obnoxious weed.

Thanks, Aknan. I'll try it in the spring. I can't do much for the part coming up next door. It's coming up in her daylilies. If the deer keep coming back neither of us will have any lilies left for long. :-(

They come in several colors and are huge plants. A car wash near us used to plant yellow ones and they grew about 8 feet tall. The Brugmansia type are the big ones. that's what this puzzle is. The daturas are smaller and grow wild in Arizona. They are white flowers. They also come in pink and a sort of plum purple backed with almost white inside.
