There are parking meters in downtown Kansas City, MO - I don't know how much they are or what the fine is for parking with an expired meter - my only experience was in a small Missouri town in the late 1970s - the fine was a quarter.
Oh, they're still around. I live in Charleston, S.C., and downtown only has a few parking garages. All the streets are metered parking and the meter maids ticket all day long and all night long too! Reminds me of NYC where I grew up. I think parking meters are here forever!
