How did rutabagas get into Thanksgiving. I'm a Southern and love rutabagas, but never had them at Thanksgiving until my youngest son married a girl from New York.

When I worked in the school cafeteria we made sweet potato pies when the menu called for pumpkin
the kids didn't know the differents

Pumpkin pie tomorrow! It's Canadian Thanksgiving and off to a big meal with friends. All 20 or so of them :) Turkey and all the trimmings, mashed rutabaga, gravy etc. Then apple or pumpkin pie for dessert. Or both!

My favorite..and it doesn't have to be at Thanksgiving. I have to admit that I put so much whipped cream on the pie that its hidden from sight. Get teased a lot, but I just sit back and enjoy.
