Anybody play hearts? We used to and when I would try for cabbage it would make me a nervous wreck. I truly can't understand how people can be "addicted" to the adrenaline rush. To me it is thoroughly unpleasant. I sufferd through it to compete and perform
but if I could have done it without, I would have.
Wishing you a no anxiety day.
I'm not familiar with the term "cabbage" in hearts. What does it mean - are you winning the entire hand?

In hearts you win a hand by taking the least points (hearts) or winning every heart (cabbage). If you "go for cabbage" you put yourself in a position where anyone else winning even one heart will cause you to end up with a great many points. If you are successful everyone else has to "eat cabbage" (acquire the mazimum points in a hand).
I haven't played in years so I forget the actual number of points If you are interested look up the rules. I have forgotten some and used to play Pinocchle also and have some confusion over scoring in my mind. I tried looking up the kind of hearts we played in Hoyle but they don't list that kind. It's the only kind we ever played and just called it "hearts."

Thanks for the explanation, pixi. That's kind of what I was thinking. Seems like every region has its own variation of favorite card games.

In the Microsoft version of virtual hearts, winning all the hearts is called "shoot the moon."

I love hearts, and play it often on the Microsoft app. I, too am very noncompetitive. The playing of any game gives me pleasure, but I have no need to win. Is "cabbage" the winning of all the hearts as well as the queen of spades? If so, yes it is nerve wracking, and often not doable.

Yes. You really have to concentrate and have perfect count and odds to do it. I think I managed it once but the tension isn't worth it. I pefer card games where you can play and chat without doing harm to either.
In the early days of Saturday Night Live, there was a skit where cauliflower was used as a brain.

We made it with apple cider vinegar, brown sugar and apples. It was a favorite of mine but I can't eat it any more.
When I was doing the puzzle I kept thinkingn it was an intestine.
i thought it looked like a piece of red of red cabbage
but if I could have done it without, I would have.

Cabbage juice is excellent for anti-ulcer therapy.
