Good morning/evening all.
Lovely. It would be wonderful if umbrellas were made with all those spines in this country. I bet it would cost a fortune. My mother would always make me buy her umbrellas with at least 12 but these days you get 8. The slightest wind and they turn inside out. Even though it's Burmese the color and pattern make me think of Spain with mantillas in black lace and red ruffled dresses on flamenco dancers.
Enjoyed the puzzle. I'm glad the color didn't bother me. Must have been a hassle, Aussie, to have sensitivity to the red and black. Almost like looking at those op art things from years ago, huh?
It's 10 degrees today (-12 C) and the lake which had thawed is starting to ice over again. Some Canada geese and mallards have come back. Brrr. March is such a wicked turncoat!
Good afternoon all. I know what you mean about umbrellas and we had a really cold strong one for St. Pat's day yesterday...drank a lot of tea and coffee to stay warm. Like they say beware the iides of March...now what was that all about, anyway?

The Ides of March was the date Brutus stabbed Julius Caesar. He was considered a good friend by Caesar who turned to him and said, "et tu Brute? " (You too, Brutus? )

Good morning pixipixil--do you live in canada as you mentioned the weather abnd the Canada geese. It was -16 here this morning but warming up. We have lots of snow and expecting another 25 cm. In the next couple of days. Better than -25 and 30. We also have about 4 feet of ice still on our lakes. Great puzzle but also hard on the old eyes!

Thanks I remember from school about Caesar and Brutus. Did we have the Julian calendar already back then?

Hi Murphydog:
No. Upstate New York. I sometimes think I'd like lving in Canada until I remember the longwinters and losing part of the good wether to black flies. You have a very beautiful country. We were in Alberta last summer and went through Jasper, Lake Louise. The icefields and Banff. I left time for Calgary but we only saw the zoo as I wanted to see the hoodoos in the badlands and it was hot and a longer drive than I realized. We've also been around the Bay of fundy. Loved Parslow, Digby,
hopewell Rocks et al. Didn't get to the highlands tho so I want to go back some day. Also would like to see Newfoundland with the fjords.

Yes it is! It was in the 60's here and now it is cold again and those March winds are blowing something fierce here in the State of Washington. 13 More days until my birthday and Easter:)

Hi Toadalove:
Happy Birthday/Easter. Mine is the 26. I hate having it during Lent which it almost always is. One good thing about being old is I don't have to fast any more. Mt brother may move to Washington. Once he beats the cancer he plans a trip to make sure he'll like it.

The Ides of March is March 15....it was my one line as the Soothsayer in the play Julius Caesar in my hs advanced English class....therefore, I will Never forget it even though I said it 44 years ago! )

Hi lydiagintn:
And that saying didn't soothe anyone, did it? Just being silly. Did you put it on as an assembly? We had a drama club but the play they put on was silly. I auditioned to sing Frankie and Johnny Were Lovers and played a saloon girl. I only sang the song then hid under a table during a gunfight.

No, I think it was just done in class after the teacher had us memorize long lines from the play! That was my last year of advanced English!!! I was in a talent show once where I had to go back and forth between playing drums and guitar because my girlfriend couldn't figure out either instrument!!! We performed House of the Rising Sun...a terrific song choice for middle school girls, huh?!
