Aussie have you talked to an attorney? If not, you need to. I know it's expensive, but sometimes you really need one and I think this is one of those times.Complicated case as it involves two countries laws. Prayers my friend, always. Be safe and well.

Do you have a good lawyer? If your lawyer works hard for you that can make a difference.

I must have missed what happened but sending a prayer your way, Aussie. If you were in teh US you could have sued him for desertion. I can't imagine what makes him think he has any right to give you a hard time.

Pixi I don't know what the laws are where you live, but here on the west coast you have not been able to sue someone for desertion for quite a few years. And I know this because I worked as supervisor of the civil division of Superior Court in San Jose, Ca and it was part of my job to know these kinds of facts, and to be able to explain these things to the public and attorneys, along with many, many other legal facts. Like I told Aussie just the fact that you are dealing with 2 different countries is the most difficult thing about this. Most attorneys don't have the knowledge of both countries laws let alone the the individual states who all have minor differences in laws and procedures. Still he does not have the right to mess with her and there is some sort of recourse for Aussie it's just not going to be easy or quick. I hope he is not trying to stay married to get his hands on her house or other property. If it were me I would go to an attorney and make a new will, making sure he cannot get his hands on her property. Don't know why people have to act like that. You be safe and well.

Thanks Darambo, the gf has written nasty notes to me now so have blocked her and her family as a safeguard. And you are right in that I will be making a new airtight will to protect my property from falling into their hands. Love you. Hugs.

I'm sending more prayers your way. It sounds like a big mess. I'm divorced to and I had my share of problems with it, but your situation seems much worse. It's especially hard to deal with during the holidays. Prayers help and I believe God will prevail.

Thanks for the info, darambo. I only had knowledge from way back in the 70's when my aunt had to maintain residence with her husband who was being violent to her in order not to be sued for desertion. This was New Jersey law at the time. She managed by having the basement sealed off from the rest of the house and stayed there until he went to work then would sneak out to work herself. Once the divorce went thru she moved to NY.

Good thinking to make sure your will is updated Aussie. Sorry you have to deal with such unkindness from your ex. I have faith it will all work out as well as can be expected for you but it still stinks that he's doing all this.

Pixi the civil laws around the country have changed immensely in the last 40 years.....especially the ones that apply to divorce. Women in particular really still seem to have a harder time in divorce cases. What a shame that happened to your aunt. I was very fortunate with my divorce, no problems....but there was no property to fight about and we had been separated for quite sum time and had both moved on. For Aussie's sake I hope this woman he is with is not trying to pressure her into giving him half her property in exchange for for the divorce. I'm surprised your aunt did not get a restraining order. Be safe and well

Aussie, I'm sorry to hear this and I wish I had seen it before. I was doing puzzles super early for a while, before there were comments. I am so mad at your dummy soon to be ex husband. If you can get the lawyers to do most of it, it really helps a lot, at least it did for me. Seems like he would not have much of a case since he disappeared by his choice, and hasn't returned. I hope there is a way to accomplish the divorce without his signature. I will send super prayers for you. Take care, stay healthy, and try to enjoy the Advent season.
