This looks similar the to stollen my mother used to make (without the cranberries on top). Fruitcake is much denser, this is more bread-like.
After my mother started working she didn't bake as much, so we would buy them from Publix and they were quite good. Now they don't bake them on site and they aren't that good - at least to me.
Maybe I'll try and find my mom's old recipe.

Looks like fruit cake to me. My daughter likes it, not a fan myself. I make a Swedish Tea ring for church and snow ball cookies to go with it. Iced ginger snaps also. Loved this puzzle. So very festive.

My Mom made a Stollen every year at Christmas. She made it for her best friend and also for the family. She didn't use nearly enough icing to suit me and I wasn't a fan of the Stollen. She made hers in the shape of a poinsettia and it did look so festive and delicious. Since it had no chocolate I wasn't intrigued.

Like the cover of the Costco Connection that came yesterday! I may try one this year.
