A wonderful bird. I grew up in Northern Minnesota on a farm. We had swallows who built their nests under the eaves of our granary, garage and other out buildings. I loved watching them come out at dust and catch the flying insects that were attracted to our yard lights. I hadn't thought of them for ages until I did this puzzle. We had lots of other birds like martins, sparrows, blue birds, starlings and of course, crows that loved the corn fields. Good memories.

Swallows are amazing birds. I've read they eat their weight in insects every day, and spend most of their time on the wing. Migratory swallows can even sleep while flying, or so I'm told.
I was also taught what you have said about the Swallow and to add to it the ones we have come to the UK for the summer never or very rarely come down to land on the ground, when collecting mud for nests it is done on the wing and it is incredible to watch. God made a wonderful set of creatures for us to share the world with (except spiders)

We have violet green and bank swallows up here. When the violet green ones moved into our neighborhood, the mosquitoes vanished, along with most of the gnats and moose flies. While they no longer nest in this neighborhood, I see them on patrol every few days.

I was given a piece of information about spiders that really I did not what to know, so to thin it down I will share it with you, (this I me at my worst) it is said that for every person on this planet they are 2.4million spiders. each.

Hahaha Aknan - me too. Amazon has an ad on at the moment of two guys watching TV and eating popcorn and one looks up and sees a small spider on the ceiling and points it out to the other guy and they both go berserk trying to get away from it. It is really funny. Hugs.

It is funny you mentioned butterflies nborchardt. I was explaining to my students in Sunday School this morning about how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. It had to do with transforming our inner beauty into showing our godly lives to those around us. We are studying 2nd Corinthians. It was a good lesson for my kids and they got to make a cocoon, shaped like a pocket out of paper and put a cut-out butterfly in it. Have a blessed day.

Thank you, nborchardt, for your thought-provoking question. Mind if I add to it? "What would the world be like without birds, butterflies, flowers and trees? " Each is a beautiful example of God's perfect creation and shows us how growth and change is inevitable. Also, looking forward to your poem, aussie! Hugs4all.

I have never been able to understand how someone can look at nature and then say there is no God. Nature is proof of a loving Heavenly Father. Blessings!
That's a lovely photo of a swallow. I just love them - when I lived in the country we had a family of swallows living in the back porch. The whole family would perch in a row on top of the wall opposite the bathroom window, peeking in with their cheeky wee faces! They lived there year-round - don't know why they never migrated as I think swallows are meant to do.
