I have only seen ginger root (raw and candy - it's too strong for me), ginger snaps, ginger beer, and ginger ale. My favorite ginger ale is Vernor's, largely because my dad grew up around Detroit, so it used to be a rare treat to get it. Fortunately now, it's often available in Kansas City (12-packs of cans or 2-liter bottles). The last time I was in Detroit, I kept buying 1 liter bottles in the hotel's gift store or at the CVS across the street in the Renaissance Center (I was there for a conference in February - not the best time of year to visit Detroit - it snowed almost nonstop the entire 5 days I was there), so I was only able to talk to one of my uncles. He had offered to drive in from one of the suburbs to take me to dinner, but I did not want to cause a man in his mid-70's and his wife with RA to try driving while it was so cold, windy, and usually snowing.
I have never heard of Vernor's ginger ale. The only ginger ale I have ever known where I am at is Canada dry, even as a kid it was Canada dry.
Met a woman in town that told me her and her husband moved here from back east and said a lot of brands are different here, and said that some brands are the same thing but with a different name. She mentioned brands I have never heard of.

Vernor's is quite a bit darker than Canada Dry and has a stronger ginger flavor. It was first made in 1866. I think Dr. Pepper/7 Up does the bottling now.

Yeah - Ginger beer can be strong - at the end it has a kick to it. I love the Triple Ginger cookies from Trader Joes. Another brand makes ginger cookies - used to buy a Ginger crisp cookie. Really yummy! I've dealt with really cold weather - growing up my mom would always ask me to walk down to the store to get milk. When the days were really cold she ask me. I'd used to see people walking or jogging in this type of weather. Grew up in the midwest - mn

I've heard of Vernors - I can think of candy and pop brands that many weren't have heard of. Cactus Cooler - Sun Drop - one day I was with sis family and we stopped at a convenience store and I purchased Frescca - like Squirt as well.
I see this red torch ginger all over Oahu! It is used in arrangements in the big hotels in Waikiki.and elsewhere..the blossom lasts a while....Gorgeous! The plant itself is about 10 feet tall.
I think so too jiggler and love the looks of the flower.
I noticed your comment on ice cream soda made with ginger ale. Is that similar to a root beer float, except vanilla ice cream with ginger ale instead of the root beer?
Beautiful flower, love the looks of it and the color. Ginger makes me think of ginger ale and my Mom always gave us ginger ale when we were starting to get over flu enough to keep something down and it did always make us feel better. I did the same with my kids but I let it go flat and got the fizz out and much better on the stomach.
