I took the train to New Orleans from Chicago when I first lived in Honduras and the only cities you could get a plane to Honduras was New Orleans and Miami. And New Orleans was a whole lot cheaper to get than Miami from Illinois. Have a happy peaceful day, elijah13!

When I was a little girl my parents would put me on the train going to my grandmother's, tell the conductor when to make sure I got off, and was met at the depot by my aunt and grandmother. That was back when we could travel in such a way - the conductor would come and check on me every 15 or 20 minutes and would help me and my suitcase off at the depot. What wonderful memories. Loved it!!

Few years ago, wife and I took an 18 hour overnight train ride from Moscow to Volgograd. Impressive, and the natives were friendly!

What an adventure, drawback! I wish I could do more traveling than we do. But as we get older, our bodies are getting slower and more tied to home.

This is so true. Glad I did my traveling when I did and could do it. Can't do it anymore.

Growing old is compulsory, growing up is optional.
Stay young in spirit and take life as it comes.
My wife has to drive me around now, 'cos, frankly, I no longer feel competent behind the wheel except for short runs (max about 10 miles) so when she is driving I fall asleep - as I tell her, that way I won't see death when it arrives!

My driving consists of around my neighborhood for shopping. Once in a while I will go about 15 miles for lunch with the people who were at the school where I taught. That happens once a month but they also know how far I will go and when I will come and when I won't. My neighborhood has everything I need within about 5 miles. Love it!
Went to see my sister-in-law and it was a pretty long drive so no time to do this yesterday. Had a very nice time and the weather was good.
Hope your yesterday was good and today is even better.
Beautiful scenery. Rode a train from Iowa to Colorado when I was 9 with my grandma. Stayed a few weeks with my aunt and cousins and back home but the scenery was nothing like this.
