Another quilt I wouldn't buy. The pattern is much too busy and none of my home colors.

I'm not a fan of this quilt, but again, it was a fun, fun puzzle.

I adore handmade quilts! And the patchwork, "tacked" ones are my favorite. I have made several of which we enjoy on our beds especially in Winter. Anyone ever made a denim quilt???? Thanks for the puzzle C4Jigsaw Staff!!!

I'm a self-taught handquilter. I've never worked with denim but I know people do. And old, beloved T-shirts and neckties, too. When my hubby retired he wanted to throw out all his neckties from the office but I sent them to a friend who makes necktie quilts.

That's a great idea. Too late now as my hubby couldn't wait to take almost all his clothes to the thrift store and I do mean almost all. I do hve a few ties I bought and kept for myself but never figured what to do with them. I may someday use them as an edging on a blouse.

I made my grandson a denim quilt when he was about 10. I used his old jeans and cut out the zipper and made a pocket in the quilt where he could unzip and storage his treasures. I used a red handerchief pattern material for the backing. It is a very heavy quilt as he kept wanting me to make it bigger (which was a good idea as he is now 6'3). It was fun to use different parts of the jeans and place them in various positions.

My friend says they're lovely to work with, especially if they're silk.

Haven't made a denim one, but I think the material should be well-loved and soft!

I have seen them, but never made one. I've been holding on to some levis, not sure what to do with them, I may just give a quilt a try! I've never made one, but I learn a lot by watching youtube. Any tips?

I used to have a pattern for making a shirt from old ties. It was easy, if I remember correctly. You could probably google it and find the instructions. My husband has about 100 beautiful ties that he rarely, if ever, wears anymore. (Hard to wear a tie with a jogging suit! ) I may look up the instructions myself!

I once saw a tire covered in ties all around, and a round wooden top which made for a really cute ottoman.

That should be "skirt", not shirt.

Oh. Okay. I can visualize that. Harder to imagine a shirt...but maybe a fancy vest?

Rahrah, I suggest you check out Youtube. There are some fantastic home quilters that have easy tutorials (there are also big shops that just wanna sell you stuff, too, LOL). I use it when I get stuck as no one I know even sews on buttons, let alone make a quilt! My only query of a denim quilt would be that it might be very very heavy esp when wet--have to take it to a drycleaner or something to wash it.

I made a denim quilt (lap size one) but I did it all using my sewing machine, don't like to quilt by hand. I also made 3 small quilts (ones with a cat in the middle of each one) for our 3 cats, they would fit in the chairs they like to sleep in. Those were just with cotton fabric.

I bet the cats loved them, since you handled the material alot, your scent was on them. I will use my machine as well.

Orinoco, I agree, it would be heavy. Maybe I should go with lap robes for the veterans' hospital. I practically lived there this past year when my brother was there for 5 months. There were some beautiful handmade lap robes and quilts that they give the guys who are in there. I'm in Tucson, AZ (cowboy country! ) so I think the denim would be appreciated. Thanks for the tip on youtube, I've used it before, and think it's great. I can get it on my tv too, so everything is larger and more detailed.

They even get to take them home with them. I really liked that idea. May give them a good association thought that doesn't remind them of why they were there.

WOW! Love all these comments on quilts! bmoo1952....I used red/black checked flannel for the backing on my husband's quilt. And it is heavy but oh is it so warm on those cold, snowy, winter days. He keeps his quilt near him....near sofa!!!

I've been offline, replying late. bmoo1952, that quilt will be treasured by your grandson forever! What a cool thing to do for him! I want to start quilting but I seem to not have time. The VA hospital quilts are a great idea too. I need to learn to work on projects in short increments.
