I visited my sister and family in Washington DC and my nephew was about 5 years old (he's now 53! ). The Washington Monument can be seen from many vantage points in the city and each time he spied it, he would emphatically announce, "The MON-U-MENT!!! "
Every time I see it I think of dear little Glenn.
Have been to the Washington monument. Have been there a few times. My sister used to live in the area. I got to meet all of the am news anchors. She even worked with Sam Donaldson. She got to meet Dolly Parton as well.
There is an elevator to the top. When we went the first time we were able to walk down the stairs. It was interesting. They have plaques for the different states, etc. on the walls. My; legs were shaking when I got to the bottom but our girls enjoyed it.
I wish I had gone to Washington, DC when I was younger and getting to the top of this would have been possible. The National Mall is very impressive and I think every American should visit.
When I was 3 my mother and I took a train to Washington, DC to see her brother who lived in the area during world war II. She climbed the Washington Monument but left me down on the ground. Went when I was older but never did get that close to it. But did see the Vietman Memorial. Now that is a place to see. Had goosebumps on my arms looking at it. A friend of my brother in law name is on it and we found it. If you get a chance go see it do so.
