When my sister and her family lived in D.C. in 1969, my nephew was 5. We visited them and in touring around D.C. whenever my nephew spied the Washington Monument, he squealed, "The Mon-u-ment! " I can still hear it!
Been to DC twice. The National Mall is wonderful...beautiful memorials and gardens and the museums are all free. Kept missing the cherry blossoms. Maybe we'll try again next year.
I don't rememer seeing all those ducks.
Wishing you happy trips this summer. For you "down under" wishing you a good book and a cozy nook.
My son went to D.C. with the school band from Emporia. They played and marched in a parade. They won a trophy there but the state of Kansas wouldn't let them bring it home.

Jmbps--Why? They must have been very disappointed.
I seen that up close in April of 2017 when I went on honor flight. Awesome structure. Saw all the memorials and was awestruck by Arlington cemetery and the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier
I don't rememer seeing all those ducks.

Good night and God bless. Hugs.
