This reminds me of when I was in first grade and learned to play the bells. I had to quit to stop the ringing in my ears.

The first instrument like this had stone keys. I remember trying to make one by filling water glasses at different levels. I didn't realize yourubbed a finger around the rim for that type. I thought you just tapped the glass with a spoon...and no I didn't break any. I also had the colorful metal type. I was more interested in a tiny, tinny piano I had. I didn't have talent for instruments. I mostly liked to sing.

The xylophone brings back memories of when I enjoyed playing with
one that was a "metal" variety of colors when I was around 9-10 years
old.
