Very cold in my part of the world. Actually, we've so far been having some mild and sort of warm days lately but it then it goes back to Winter weather. The worst we've been getting is constant rain. It could be warm rain, cold rain, freezing rain.

KNadineM sounds like we are getting the same weather. We are getting rain now which is really making a mess as we have 4 feet of snow already. Be safe out there.

Darambo, four feet of snow sounds heavenly, but I know it isn't when you are in it. I am sure we will all appreciate a drop in the temp predicted for Sunday. Take care and hugs.

Darambo, we've barely had an inch where I am. I'm in Cincinnati, Ohio

I hope the weather there breaks soon and you get some relief from the heat. The weather here is rainy and mild. (Lots of mud) yuck! We are supposed to get some snow by Thursday, I am not looking forward to it!

Up until about 3pm yesterday it was still very hot and sticky, then we had a shower of rain and it certainly cooled things down. It is very mild and lovely this morning.

I am so glad for you! Feeling hot and sticky is as bad as being cold. I don't like either. Hugs and blessings, Aussie! :)

Thank you olamae. My neighbours had an open house yesterday not sure if the house was sold, but it will be a sad day when they go. Been next to them for fifteen years. Hugs.

It is hard to see familiar things and lovely people go! Especially if you have known them for a long time! I will be praying that your new neighbors will be as nice as or even better than what have experienced!

I guess that would be considered a flying boat. The end of the wing makes it look the wing is this huge, solid mass, but it's probably just a thin sheet of metal.

I'd probably be more nervous during the landing than the take off or flight.

The wings are actually fuel tanks, JamieT. There are skids on the end of each wing to allow take-offs and landings on water. This is an older model float plane.

It's also a push-pull on propeller forward facing and one backward facing on the tail. It's the only two engine plane you can fly with a one engine rating. They're really pretty cool. It does have wheels close to the mainframe of the plane; they extend some to help the plane get up docks when landing.

Say, Aknan, you sure know a lot about planes. Are you a pilot?

Aknan - thanks for that information! Since you're in Alaska, are there quite a few flying boats where you live? I know planes are fairly common in Alaska because of the distances between some towns.

We have the busiest float plane airport (lake) in the US, even busier than in Chicago. One in every 3 people in AK has a pilot's license. And pixi, yes, I'm a pilot. Got my license in 1975 at Fairfax Airport in Kansas City, KS. I'm not current now and probably won't be again - just not enough time to justify it - but I remember all the thrill of flying small planes. I was even going to get my A&P (airframe and powerplant) rating at one time, but life changes made that impossible. As we've read, "Man proposes, God disposes."

A lovely day to all of you. It's -16 here this morning. Even my paper was frozen!

Thank you, Aknan. A lovely "day" to you also. Do you get any sun this timeof year?
How did you end up in Alaska? That's a far cry from Kansas.

Pixi, our days are leaping forward. The shortest day gives us 5 hr, 23 min of daylight; we're nearing 7 now and gaining around 35 mins each week.

We came up here from WY. Answered an ad in the Wall Street Journal and boom! we're both employed as bankers here in AK. That was in 08/83 and we haven't regretted the decision at all.

From MO (I actually lived in Belton, MO, a suburb of KC, MO), I moved to Denver, changed husbands, and moved to WY. It's a long story and I won't bore you with it here!

Have a lovely day. We've warmed up to -3 so far - may even reach 8!

Well, aknan, give my regards to the polar bears and seals.
My brother just recently took a cruise to Alaska and loved it. My parents, now deceased, also took that trip and loved it.

Aknan, it sounds like you have had a very fascinating life! My husband was also a pilot at one time, but lost his license due to medical reasons. I doubt seriously that you can be boring!

Sorry, aknan, but that flying boat is a Canadair CL 215, a twin engined flying boat that was used, and maybe still is, extensively for fighting forest fires by 'bombing' them from above with a few tons of water at a time. Other models could carry up to 26 passengers Both engines are conventional 'puller' engines - you can just see the propellor tip on the port engine above the fuselage line.

Google Wikipedia Canadair CL215 for more info, of just google images cl215 for lots of pix.

Thanks for the correction, drawback! It sure looked like a pusher propeller on the tail - reminded me of a Cessna.
